Signs and Symbols
10.5″ x 5.5″, 40 pages Rives BFK and mylar Acrylic paste paint and collograph printed images on Rives BFK paper with collaged elements. Simplified stiched binding with burgandy silk spine and acrylic painted covers. The circle, square and cross are recurring images in my work. They are ancient symbols which have occured in most cultures with varying meanings. The circle is simple, whole, unbroken and all encompassing. The square is an expression of the two dimensions that constitute a surface. And the equal arm cross may represent the four cardinal points and the points of the solar calendar. In combination they become more complex visually and in potential interpretation. This piece began in a PBI workshop taught by Laura Wait.

Nag Hammadi
5″ x 3.5″, 72 pages mud papyrus Acrylic paste paint, collograph prints and collage on mud papyrus. Single quire binding with brown leather cover and black tackets Thirteen single quire codices, or manuscripts, dating from the 4th century, were found in 1945 near the Egyptian town of Nag Hammadi, buried in an earthen jar. This piece began as a1/4 scale replica of Codex VI, (which wrapped in the opposite direction), in a workshop taught by Julia Miller. The poem in this book comes from a text in one of the codices entitled “The Thunder, Perfect Mind”. Spoken in the voice of a feminine divine power it reads in part: For I am the first and the last. I am the honored one and the scorned one. I am the whore and the holy one. I am the wife and the virgin …I am the barren one, and many are her sons …I am the silence that is incomprehensible .. I am the utterance of my name.
