Commissioned by Raymond Property Company, “Appeal” is one of twenty panels Krause created to celebrate “The Avenue of the Arts” and mask the construction site of Trinity Place, one of Boston’s newest condominium projects.
For this panel, Krause photographed a sculpture of a native American Indian on horseback, “Appeal to the Great Spirit” by Cyrus Dalin, in front of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. Using the Mac-friendly Intergraph ExtremeZ Graphics Workstation, the photograph was combined with a drawing by a student from Massachusetts College of Art’s first class in 1873 using numerous layers, masks and composite options.
Using the 3M Cactus RIP, each image was printed 4’x8′ with Encad’s Novajet Pro 50 on Encad outdoor vinyl using Graphic Outdoor (GO) inks. Mounted and overlaminated, the 80′ mural was in place for the two years construction was in process.
The images were printed on the Epson 3000 and reworked with traditional artist materials and collage elements including a gold cord for the bridle and a braided metal strip for the sculpture stand. Images were rescanned on the Epson Expression 836XL flatbed scanner.
