The key source image was a photograph of a street scene in Oxaca, Mexico taken by Swiss photogtrapher Viola Kaumlen. It was cropped to focus on a woman looking over her shoulder. The other two images were a photograph of a peeling, rusty globe and a black and white tower from Desk Gallery, Zedcor, Inc. copyright-free cd-rom.
The file was flipped horizontally in the Cactus RIP and printed on an Encad Novajet Pro 50 using QIS white film. The paper, an Indian Bagasse handmade paper, was thoroughly soaked in water, drained then blotted. The printed image was placed on the wet paper, covered with printmaking blankets and put through an etching press. The image from the film transfers almost totally to the paper. The final print was enhanced with metallic pastels and pigment.
