Passages

Passages include doors, windows, tunnels, openings, corridors. The term also encompasses movement from one place to another, the transition from one condition or state to another, and the right or permission to come and go freely. We speak of passing time, safe passage, and “passing over” or dying. These images reference those varied meanings as well the barriers that prevent us from coming and going at will.

These mixed media assemblages were printed on recycled copper, brass, lead, aluminum, plexigles, wood and paper using flat-bed printers with varying head clearance. Some of the printers used include those manufactured by Vutek, Durst, Mimaki and DuPont. They are 24" x 24" and 36" x 36" and are related to the images in the series, Reflective Vision. How the images were made is described in the Process section.
